Sammy Shrimp, Ellie & Ollie Eel, and Teena Tortoise are just a few of Suzanne Tate’s Nature Series with more than 30 books written and illustrated for children ages Pre-K through 4 years old. Her books have been used to teach oceanography by both public and private school teachers, marine educators at aquariums and museums, and home schoolers. Her exciting stories are biologically accurate, and provide an entertaining and beneficial portal for educating children as well as promoting self-esteem and environmental awareness.
The illustrations that accompany the Outer Banks author’s tales are of Nags Head artist and illustrator James Melvin. Together, the pair has been teaching generations of children about the creatures of the sea with their whimsical illustrations and fun story-lines.
Sanderling Resort uses Suzanne Tate’s Nature Series for children’s events on property. Incorporating kids’ crafts and other beach side activities with the Outer Banks based coastal stories provides an educational element to the kid’s fun!
The most recent addition to the Nature Series is Wendy Whale: A Tale of A Huge Creature. Suzanne Tate and James Melvin will be visiting Downtown Books on Thursday, July 10th (105 Sir Walter Raleigh Street, Manteo) from 2pm to 4pm. Don’t miss your chance to meet the creator behind this beloved children’s books author!
