Sitting down with Duck Donuts President, Robin Griffith, we were surrounded by teeming customers eager to get their hands on one of those famous, mouth-wateringly delicious donuts that no one can ever seem to get enough of. Since 2006, Duck Donuts has been cranking out made-to-order bliss in the form of sugary, doughy goodness for any Outer Banks guest who visits one of their four locations.
Duck Donuts came to be when CEO, Russell DiGilio, realized there wasn’t anywhere to get hot, fresh, made-to-order donuts in the Outer Banks and he just couldn’t make the residents and visitors that come here every year suffer any longer. After experimenting with about 20 variations, the heavenly Duck Donut finally came to fruition, and began a craze for the little pastries that everyone wants to get their hands on.
Interviewing Robin, there were some things I just had to ask. With all of their flavors, toppings and coatings, I had to know what the worst one he ever made was. Robin couldn’t say one was ever absolutely inedible, but the upcoming trial phase of the “Pina Colada” donut could set that record, before they make it into yet another one of their impeccable treats. The donut daredevil also says he’s only eaten about 10 dozen since their creation, but who’s counting?
For our Sanderling Resort guests, we partnered up with Duck Donuts to do a special promotion until Labor Day- all of our kids under 12 can color in one of our Sanderling Stanley’s or Sally’s and bring it with them to any OBX Duck Donuts location and get a FREE DONUT! That’s right, bring your flat Sanderling people with you to get one of those hot, melty, scrumptious donuts for free!
We love having Duck Donuts so close to our resort, and it makes the perfect breakfast (or anytime) stop when biking into town for a day of family fun. Don’t miss this place on your vacation here in the Outer Banks, it’s a coastal favorite!
