Every year before wedding season begins we host a Tasting for the contracted couples holding their wedding at Sanderling! We feel honored that they choose us to execute their wedding on our lovely grounds and consistently strive to make their experience memorable. The Tasting allows us to meet and mingle with the couples saying their “I Do’s” with us and to give them an absolutely fantastic meal from our culinary department. Designed similar to a reception, they get the chance to meet local vendors such as Coastal Shots for fun in the photobooth or sample Italian ice (with a splash of their favorite liquor) by OBX Sunset Slush.  In addition, they get the chance to see our inspiring preferred event designers’ work at each table for great ideas to use at their own wedding. Here’s a peek behind the doors at this stunning event, photographed by Mary Basnight Photography.

We didn’t just invite all our newlyweds-to-be for some dreamy tablescapes though, this night was all about the food! Their menu consisted of some of our favorites from our menus. Our couples were treated to a host of yummy hors d’oeurves like Classic Tomato Bruschetta with Fresh Mozzarella, Herbed Goat Cheese Hushpuppies, Mini Quiches, Australian Lollipop Lamb Chops, Duck Confit Rillettes, Pickled Carolina Shrimp, Sesame Chicken Satay, and Yellow Fin Tuna Tartar. A full chilled seafood display was the main attraction boasting Atlantic Mussels, Local shrimp, Crab Gazpacho, Crab Claws, Oysters on the half shell and all the accompaniments.

Now, of course, we didn’t stop there. We put our best foot forward, and our best consists of so much more. When dinner finally rolled around after a toast to our couples, they were treated to a bountiful selection of stations set up around the room. Our favorite at the Pasta Station, where your personal chef will take your pairings and sautee them up to order right in front of you,  was the cheese tortellini with roasted tomato and basil sauce, adding in smoked bacon and mushrooms. We also had a carving station set up with Herb Roasted Black Angus Tenderloin of Beef, accompanied by roasted vegetables and yummy rolls. Our most prized comfort food, Mac and Cheese, made it’s appearance with a chef attended station including new players to the cheesy pasta like caramelized onions, smoked beef brisket and Gouda cheese. OF COURSE, we had to have our Bacon Bar which always seems to be the star of the show.  You can see the full savory details here.  We pumped it up with new items like the Bourbon bacon Jame with Brie and Toast Points, as well as Bacon and Cheddar Stuffed Jalapenos. Our Signature Blue Crab and Corn Chowder accompanied the Salad Bar, and we showed our Southern roots with our brand new Shrimp and Grits station that was a crowd favorite. Is your mouth watering? Because here come the pictures.

Some say we could have stopped there but we couldn’t stop there. Check out the A-list team of vendors we invited to add to the evening, like Sunset Slush Italian Ice, Distinct Delights Belgian Chocolate, Great Cakes! and a wine tasting any sommelier would be envious of.  Matt Sickels of Six Stylez entertained showcasing his talent using a variety of guitars, and guests we’re able to experience The Shooting Gallery‘s photobooth and fun props!

Okay, okay. We know what you’re thinking. There’s no possible way that we brought out absolutely ANYTHING else, but this is Sanderling! We know how to really throw a party and we couldn’t let anyone go without seeing some of our favorite late night munchies, could we? No. Way. If there was a soul in sight with even a hint of hunger, we rolled out our Signature Sanderling S’mores bar and some “After Party” bites like Black and Blue Bacon Cheeseburger sliders, hot french fries and flat-bread pizzas with tomato, mozzarella and basil, pepperoni, and artichoke, spinach, and crab.
