Love sea life and want to get up close and personal with some spindly critters? The North Carolina Aquariums bring all sorts of crawlies to our Beach House Lobby for our guests to enjoy. The knowledgeable staff that come can answer all your questions about the hermit crabs, lightening whelks, purple sea urchins, cushion sea stars and many other little guys they bring along!
Friendly for kids of all ages, you’ll find out loads of information about all the sea dwellers and any other beach findings you bring in to discover what they are! Cool information like life history, eating habits, how things get around and even how different sea creatures are born will be among the things you find out during your visit with these tiny treasures.
Be sure to stop by the second floor of the Beach House Lobby on August 15th at 10am to see what creatures might be visiting us at the Sanderling Resort!
If you want more, visit one of the North Carolina Aquarium locations: Roanoke Island in Manteo, Pine Knoll Shores, Fort Fisher in Kure Beach, and Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head. Established in 1976, The NC Aquariums educate and build awareness for aquatic environments at all of their locations. The closest to Sanderling is Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head. You’ll find tons of cool activities here- whether you want to fish at the pier, play in the sand, or just relax on the shore, Jennette’s is a local favorite in the Outer Banks.
If you want to head to a real aquarium with lots of sea life, the closest one is a short trip to Manteo where you’ll find Roanoke Island Aquarium. Roanoke Island is the home of the largest shark collection in North Carolina, and exhibits freshwater and saltwater animals. Touch an alligator or feed the stingrays during your trip and make sure you visit the Sea Turtle Rescue exhibit!
