So you know this is the person of your dreams, but you’re not exactly sure how you want to pop the question? You want it to be unique, romantic, special, and captured on film. But there’s just too many options out there and you’re overwhelmed! Here are some unique proposal ideas and locations that the Outer Banks has to offer.
Currituck, Bodie Island, and Cape Hatteras Lighthouses
With a perfect view from above, the Outer Banks lighthouses provide a beautiful engagement location. And here you have a few options! You can climb the lighthouse together and pop the question at the top with the photographer capturing it all, or you can have a banner at the bottom of the lighthouse that’s only visible from the top that asks, “Will you marry me?”. Plus you’ll be able to use the lighthouse as a backdrop for all of your pictures together!
It’s not your typical Outer Banks proposal location but that’s why we love it! You can take a stroll through the vineyards, shop at the Cotton Gin, and be guided through a list of delectable wines. Sanctuary Vineyards even has events throughout the year with live music, food, and of course wine! Engagement pictures can’t go wrong with the gorgeous backdrop of the vineyard.
Wild Horse Tour
There’s nothing more special than seeing these wild horses roaming the beaches in Corolla. Plus going at sunset will make the pictures even more beautiful! You can take a self guided tour in a 4 wheel drive vehicle, or take a tour with Corolla Jeep Adventures. Either way the engagement will be a special moment with the horses and, of course, our stunning beaches!
The Elizabethan Gardens
Minutes from Nags Head, the Elizabethan Gardens in Manteo is full of lush live oak trees, beautiful sound views, stone walking paths, and blooms galore. It’s an intimate space with lots of opportunity for exploring, and it can give your photographer a perfect place to hide out while taking those proposal pictures. You really can’t go wrong with any angle the gardens have to offer!
Jockey’s Ridge Sand Dunes
Jockey’s Ridge is the tallest sand dune on the east coast and almost feels like a desert when you are between all the tall dunes. It has beautiful views of both the Sound and the Atlantic Ocean making it a true proposal destination! You can bring a picnic, fly a kite, or just enjoy the views. Plus have a photographer ready to capture everything!
If you absolutely love being on the water, this is the perfect proposal location for you! Kitty Hawk Kites offers daytime and sunset cruises. The sunset cruise is generally intimate and meant mainly for couples (what could be more perfect!) And if the conditions are right, you could be in for spectacular sunset views! It would be a day or night to remember with photos to capture the special moment.
Are you more of an adventurous and outgoing couple? The Outer Banks offers some pretty fun activities including hang gliding that would be an awesome proposal! Kitty Hawk Kites also offers several packages making it easy to choose the best one for you to pop the question. Remember the Jockey’s Ridge sand dunes? Well you can hang glide down from the top making your special moment an exhilarating thrill!
