Last Fall, the Spa at Sanderling welcomed Crystal Swain as the new Spa Manager. With a degree in Environmental Science from the University of Georgia, she has been in the health and wellness industry from over 25 years. After teaching anatomy, physiology and muscular therapy at Southeastern School of Massage and Neuromuscular Therapy her career took her to Colorado where she pursued massage therapy. Back in North Carolina, she became the lead massage therapist at Massage Envy in Raleigh, NC before ownership in her own spa, The Sanctuary, located in Charlotte, NC.
Her main focus as Spa Manager is to ensure there is outstanding customer service and keeping up with the ever-changing industry trends. Most recently, the Spa has been incorporating clean, vegan and organic in their treatments. “The idea is to make sure there are holistic, natural treatments offered in a relaxing environment”, says Swain. The Spa is also unique in that it ties into the community when using certain ingredients, like the beeswax from the Sanderling beehives. The Gift Shop also incorporates the local businesses in selling their candles, jewelry and other products.
Hands down though, Crystal says the best thing about working at the Spa at Sanderling is the team. Most of the employees have been working there for 9+ years and bring a wealth of experience.
Born and raised in Morehead City, NC she recently moved to the Outer Banks to spend time with family. On her days off, she loves spending days at the beach with her kids and eating at the local restaurants on the Island. She also enjoys everything outdoors including hiking, rock climbing and paddle boarding. Be sure to say hello to Crystal next time you are in the Spa!
